Install a local Helm chart with a value override

Scenario ckad-dep-003 · about 6 minutes · 8 points · 8 grader checks

Deploy an application from an existing Helm chart into a namespace and override one chart value.

  • helm
  • chart
  • release
  • deployment

What you will practise

  • Install a chart from a local directory with helm install
  • Override chart values with --set or a values file
  • Inspect a release with helm list and helm get values

Start this lab

With the CLI installed and signed in, this command provisions a single node cluster on your Mac, applies the scenario setup and prints the task below.

goldenkube start ckad-dep-003

Task

The task text exactly as the CLI shows it. Solve it on the cluster, then run goldenkube submit.

A Helm chart is available on the control plane node exam-cp1 in the directory /opt/charts/webapp. Helm 3 is installed. 1. Install the chart as a release named "storefront" into the namespace "helm-apps" (create the namespace if it does not exist), overriding the chart value replicaCount to 2. 2. Do not create or edit the release's Kubernetes objects with kubectl; Helm must manage them. When you are done the release must be deployed and its Deployment must have 2 Ready replicas.
