Roll back a failed rollout and tune the strategy

Scenario ckad-dep-001 · about 6 minutes · 9 points · 9 grader checks

Recover a Deployment whose latest rollout is stuck by rolling back, then make future rollouts zero-downtime.

What you will practise

  • Inspect rollout status and history
  • Roll back with kubectl rollout undo
  • Configure maxSurge and maxUnavailable

Start this lab

With the CLI installed and signed in, this command provisions a single node cluster on your Mac, applies the scenario setup and prints the task below.

goldenkube start ckad-dep-001

Task

The task text exactly as the CLI shows it. Solve it on the cluster, then run goldenkube submit.

In namespace "rollout" the Deployment "api" (3 replicas) was just updated and the new rollout does not progress. 1. Roll the Deployment "api" back to its previous, working revision. Do not delete and recreate the Deployment. 2. Change its update strategy so that a rolling update never takes a pod away before its replacement is ready: RollingUpdate with maxSurge 1 and maxUnavailable 0. When you are done all 3 replicas must be Ready and up to date.

Grading runs locally: 9 state checks read your cluster when you submit; the scenario passes when every check passes. Hints, the reference solution and the check definitions are available only inside the CLI, not on this page.
