Readiness and liveness probes

Scenario ckad-obs-001 · about 7 minutes · 10 points · 10 grader checks

Add HTTP readiness and TCP liveness probes with specific timings to a running Deployment.

What you will practise

  • Distinguish readiness and liveness probes
  • Configure httpGet and tcpSocket probe handlers
  • Set probe timing fields

Start this lab

With the CLI installed and signed in, this command provisions a single node cluster on your Mac, applies the scenario setup and prints the task below.

goldenkube start ckad-obs-001

Task

The task text exactly as the CLI shows it. Solve it on the cluster, then run goldenkube submit.

In namespace "probes" the Deployment "health" (image nginx:1.27, 2 replicas, container "nginx") has no health checks. Add them to the existing Deployment (do not delete and recreate it): 1. A readiness probe: HTTP GET on path "/" port 80, initial delay 5 seconds, period 7 seconds. 2. A liveness probe: TCP socket check on port 80, period 15 seconds, failure threshold 4. When you are done both replicas must be Ready and run the updated pod template.
