Taint, toleration and placement

Scenario cka-sch-001 · about 7 minutes · 6 points · 5 grader checks

Taint a worker node and run a Pod that tolerates the taint and is placed on that node.

  • taint
  • toleration
  • scheduling
  • nodename

What you will practise

  • Apply a NoSchedule taint to a node
  • Add a matching toleration to a Pod
  • Place a Pod on a specific node deterministically

Start this lab

With the CLI installed and signed in, this command provisions a two nodes cluster on your Mac, applies the scenario setup and prints the task below.

goldenkube start cka-sch-001

Task

The task text exactly as the CLI shows it. Solve it on the cluster, then run goldenkube submit.

Taint the worker node "exam-w1" with key "tier", value "db", effect NoSchedule. Then, in namespace "default", create a single Pod named "cache" using image redis:7 that tolerates this taint AND is scheduled onto exam-w1 (not the control plane). The pod must be Running on exam-w1.

Grading runs locally: 5 state checks read your cluster when you submit; the scenario passes when every check passes. Hints, the reference solution and the check definitions are available only inside the CLI, not on this page.
